The Importance of an Engagement Session

If you are in the beginning phases of looking for a wedding photographer in St Pete and Tampa, you may notice that most photographers include an engagement session with their wedding packages. There are so many reasons why, but I’m going to touch on a few of the most important aspects of the engagement session.

You’ll get to know your photographer: I say this often to my brides and grooms, it is so so important that you and your photographer connect. You don’t have to be best friends, but it’s important that you can understand one another, get along in a professional way, and that you trust them! Your photographer will be with you from the moment you get dressed up until your special exit. It is very typical in a wedding scenario that your photographer will help guide what’s coming next on the timeline, where your bridal party and family needs to be, how your hair and makeup is looking and reminding you to breathe 🙂

You will feel more comfortable come wedding day: I’m not going to lie here, it can be incredibly uncomfortable to be in front of the camera! I am lucky and most of the time I’m behind it! With the right photographer, they will help you to feel so comfortable in front of the camera it’s like they aren’t even there. This is practice for the wedding day. You will already know what it feels like to have all eyes on you that come your wedding day, you will not be so freaked out about multiple cameras always around you. Because I am formally trained in telling the untouched story (meaning I let my couples unravel their true selves), being comfortable with me before the wedding allows for truly authentic photographs and perfectly captured candid moments.

It’s a time to relax: Who else is stressed about wedding planning and picking out the details? The engagement session can act as a release for the two of you and provide a very fun experience. My engagement sessions typically focus on what the two of you like to do for fun and incorporate favorite places, wines or even your favorite pet!  I love these purely for that reason. These sessions allow me to cater to your style and vision, and it really gives us a chance to vibe together in the most creative way possible.
