When Katie and Chris chose Cheekwood Estate and Gardens for their spring engagement session, we stepped into a dreamy Spring landscape painted with tulips in full bloom. Despite the trees still catching up with the tulips in terms of greenery, the burst of colors provided a stunning backdrop to capture their engagement portraits.

The gentle love shared between Katie and Chris is what stood out the most during their session. Every glance, every touch spoke volumes of their deep connection. Katie wore the biggest, most radiant smile whenever Chris held her close. As they strolled through the gardens, hand in hand, it was evident that they were meant to be. We had the most wonderful time exploring the gardens while I documented their love and got to know them even better.

Their Story

They met at Lipscomb University, where they both spent their free time volunteering with the University’s I.D.E.A.L. program, which serves students with disabilities. Both of them shared mutual friends who were in the program who happened to invite them each to dinner, and that is when they met for the first time. Following that initial meeting, they continued to run into each other around the University, allowing them to slowly get to know one another.

Their first date ended with them as an official couple. They spent their summer together working at IDEAL Summer Academy, and making trips to see each other since Chris lived two hours away in Chattanooga, TN. They became more inseparable over time as they fell in love. It wasn’t long before Chris began planning his proposal to Katie. The proposal took place here at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens. Katie was completely fooled as they pulled into Cheekwood and he led her to a special spot where a diamond ring was waiting for her!

When asked about their favorite things about each other, Katie spoke fondly of Chris’s adoration, patience, kindness, and attention to detail. For Chris, it was Katie’s infectious smile, their shared passion for their field of work, and her stable and grounded nature.

When describing their style as a couple, they chose words like classic, elegant, timeless, and genuine. These qualities shone through in every moment captured during their engagement session, reflecting their shared vision for their upcoming May wedding at Ravenswood Mansion.

It was a privilege to witness and document this part of Katie and Chris’s love story. Capturing their engagement portraits at the same place where they became engaged was incredibly special. These images tell their story and will always serve as a reminder to this exciting time in their lives together.
